about

Performances for Pateras/Baxter/Brown at Worm in Rotterdam helped kindle the musical relationship between David Brown from Melbourne and Lukas Simonis the curator of these shows. Then, a subsequent post performance stay-over for David provided the first opportunity for the duo to record at Lukas’ port-side studio and to David’s stupefaction also allowed for the utilisation of an ‘Optigan’ on these recordings! The resultant CD became their first duo release “Nature Stands Aside”.

In an antipodean celebration of this initial release Lukas and David embarked on a smallish East Coast Australian tour which gestated from a couple of Liquid Architecture Festival performances in both Brisbane and Sydney. Along the way they sighted many porous diesels, wandered amongst suburban Sydney architecture, walked with family and saw strange reflected light in the Blue Mountains, took a coastal bus ride which passed through the hometown of Midnight Oil, where they ate Italian. Then they visited the nation’s capital and later ascended to the peak of Hanging Rock, a little North of Melbourne, where they observed reflected light on the distant ponds and dams, wondered about disappeared tractors and eventually stumbled upon the foraging of precariously perched rock wallabies. All these wanderings and absorptions became fodder and mulch for their next recording endeavour, the finished product of which is now aptly titled ‘Porous Diesel’.

He has developed a range of tiny sounds amplified outside their regular domain to function at rock volume. Occasionally plays a quartertone bass. ... more
